Acceptance of these terms
By downloading or using Ethos, you confirm you can form a binding contract (you're at least 13, or the age of majority where you live) and that you agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, don't use the app.
The service
Ethos compiles publicly reported information about the conduct of companies and brands, with source citations, and lets you score it against preferences you set privately on your device. Ethos is an information tool, not advice.
Accuracy
Records are researched automatically from public sources and may contain errors, omissions, or outdated information. Every fact links to its source; verify before acting on it. Nothing in Ethos is a statement of opinion by Opsibyte about any company, and scores reflect your preferences, not our judgment. To dispute a record: [email protected].
Acceptable use
Don't scrape, resell, or misrepresent Ethos records; don't present your personal score as Ethos's evaluation of a company; don't use the service to harass any person.
Subscriptions
Optional subscriptions are billed through the App Store under Apple's terms, including trial and renewal terms and Apple's own cancellation and refund policies; prices are shown before purchase. Trials and free-tier limits are described in the app. Manage or cancel a subscription in your Apple ID account settings, not through us.
Intellectual property
Ethos, its name, and its software are our property (or licensed to us) and protected by intellectual-property law. Individual facts we cite are drawn from public sources and remain attributed to them; our compilation, scoring engine, and app are our own work product. These Terms don't grant you any right to our trademarks, branding, or underlying code beyond using the app as intended.
Third-party services
Ethos relies on third-party providers — Apple (App Store, subscriptions), Supabase (backend), Anthropic (automated research), and Sentry (crash diagnostics, if enabled) — to function. We're not responsible for outages or issues caused by those providers, though we'll work to minimize their impact on you.
Liability
The service is provided "as is." To the maximum extent permitted by law, Opsibyte is not liable for decisions made based on records or scores, or for indirect or consequential damages. Our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose, or $20 if you haven't paid us anything. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold Opsibyte harmless from any claim, loss, or damage (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your misuse of the service or your violation of these Terms.
Termination
You can stop using Ethos and delete the app at any time. We may suspend or discontinue the service, or restrict access for accounts that violate the Acceptable use section, with reasonable notice where practical. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (liability limits, indemnification) continue to apply.
Governing law & disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which Opsibyte is established, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute that can't be resolved informally should first be raised with us at [email protected].
Changes
We may update these terms; material changes will be noted here with a new effective date. Continued use after changes means acceptance.
